Gentle Teaching Stories:

“I have blossomed into someone I love and respect.”

August 31, 2022/inBlog, Gentle Teaching, Stories

Gentle Teaching has greatly transformed the person I am today, and I know it will play a huge role in guiding me towards my goals and into the person I aspire to be. This past year has been one of a huge change for me. I have fought my way out of a deep, dark place, and blossomed into someone I love and respect.

Gentle Teaching has taught me to see the intrinsic value of each and every person. Being gentle with others has never been a struggle for me. I believe what brought me to COR was the desire to be a positive, bright light in someone else’s life. However, being gentle with myself has always been immensely difficult. I have always been hard on myself, which led me down a path of low self-esteem and low self-worth. I struggled with mental health problems, physical health problems and addiction.

Throughout my time with COR, I have witnessed what an impact Gentle Teaching and creating a culture of gentleness has on individuals’ lives. I have watched people flourish and grow. I have seen amazing things happen, just by being gentler with one another.

“One day it clicked for me- why don’t I treat myself this way?”

I strive to be kind and gentle to those I support, but often I was anything but kind and gentle to myself. When I started being gentler with myself, my whole life changed. Gentle Teaching has transformed the person I am today. I allow myself to make mistakes, to learn and to grow. Even if I am not perfect, I too have intrinsic value as a human being. Gentle Teaching has helped me love myself.

Since accepting myself for exactly who I am, I have become the happiest and healthiest version of me. I am more confident, and I see the value in the person I am. By loving myself first, I am able to be a better support, friend, student, daughter and sister. There are more positive parts of me to give. I will take everything Gentle Teaching has taught me in my life going forward, and I know it will play a huge role in helping me reach my goals and dreams.

“I have learned from gentle teaching that gentleness is not something you learn and only use at your place of work. It is a way of life that you carry with you at home, at school, and in public.”

“When I think about a student’s time with us, whether short or long, I think about a bridge. This bridge that you build is a gateway to your future. But one of my favorite things that just organically seems to happen is that you invite us to come along with you on your journey across that bridge. Sometimes you stay with us through employment, but sometimes you become Doctors, or you build your own yoga studios. By inviting us across this bridge with you, you’re helping open up our world and make the spaces we frequent a little safer and a little brighter. We are now known and seen by you! You share in our stories and we in yours.”
